Passing the Cup of Ho JD Hooge Wed, 17 Nov 2010 17:45:07 +0000 http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/passing-the-cup-of-ho http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/passing-the-cup-of-ho /assets/0000/0865/cupofho.png

A short history of the Cup of Ho:

- Created to acknowledge Phong Ho’s selfless, sacrificial work on the burton.com Flash website, which required a trip to Vermont and many long, long days and nights with Justin along for the ride.

- Passed along to Matt King in recognition of his kick-ass work on just about everything, all from a remote apartment in London. Matt was nominated by his own peers to have earned this distinction and unanimously voted as the next bearer.

- Eventually awarded to Scott Andreas, after he put in an insane individual effort to build CORE, the e-commerce/ order fulfillment engine for Uncommon. Scott helped create the system, process and installation for the custom products company.

- The cup was then given to Katie Allen, who performed as Account Director, managing relationships to secure loads of new work from various clients, all while carrying little Alivia in her belly and not missing a beat.

- And most recently, the Cup was passed to Tim Kviz and Martin Linde, equally, for their insane level of commitment to the NikeID Teaser video, setting the tone for quality, and a new direction for Instrument and Gridplane in the world of motion, animation and video.

Letterpress Portraits Nando Costa Mon, 08 Nov 2010 22:01:39 +0000 http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/letterpress http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/letterpress This last week I exhibited a small art show at Tender Loving Empire and as part of it, I created a series of limited edition letterpress prints entitled “Memories of an Escapist”. It’s essentially an homage to artists which have been key to my understanding of various aspects of the art field throughout my career.

Each of the 3-color artworks measures 6×9 inches and was printed on Crane Lettra Pearl white 110#. It’s limited to 50 numbered copies which can be bought on Etsy, as well as and a handful artist proofs.

Things To Go Away Vince Tue, 05 Oct 2010 01:47:09 +0000 http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/things-to-go-away http://www.ko-operativ.com/blog/entry/things-to-go-away /assets/0000/0784/IMG_1943.jpg

These days, we have the means to make annoying and irrelevant things go away.
It comes down to the willingness to learn and innovate, because some big areas of life need serious updating.

Here is a short, descriptive list of the things in my life that have gotten in the way of living, lately.

1. Mail.
I’m blown away by the audacity of organizations that think they can produce and mail huge amounts of crap around the World, as if they have a right to my attention. You have to ask, not force me to receive. I don’t need any of the mail I receive any more. Simple. Do not need. Send me packages, cool. Email me everything else or post it up and I’ll find it.

2. Receipts.
I don’t even think the IRS needs these any more. Bank records are fine. I never want a copy of a receipt. Stop making me carry things made of paper. And stop asking me if I need a copy.

3. A Wallet.
What a stupid, needless thing to carry. Put it all on my phone.

4. Cable TV Menus
We’re so used to navigating websites and phones with our fingers now, TV remote controls and their slow, ugly menus are becoming obsolete. Help me and get out of my way.

5. TV Remote controls.
See above. Put it on my phone or iPad.

6. Change.
Coins? When was the last time change was meaningful to you? Figure out something smarter to do with my change. Lower your prices and keep the change.

7. Physical Banks
I think we’re close to figuring this one out with phone cameras, scans and authentication. I don’t need a banker to talk to and hand paper to, so they can shuffle that paper to someone else.
Figure it out, we don’t need it any more.

And, last but not least…
8. Bad People
This is a big one, probably too big for us to solve in the near term, but I thought I’d throw it in.

I’m sure there’s more. Happy to listen.
